WiiU: The Coming Nintendo Game Console

WiiU – Nintendo New Game Console

Wii U is the new video game console from Nintendo. As been presented on Electronic Entertainment Expo last June 2011 ago, the product is a replacement for the previous Wii and is described to be the 8th generation video game console. The console is planned to be released on this 2012, around the holiday season. Just like any other Nintendo products, this WiiU is expected to rock the history of gaming by its new technology on this upcoming April.

What is New in WiiU

The best advantage of this new WiiU than its predecessor is that this video game console will be fully high definition. It is equipped with a custom-designed AMD Radeon HD GPU which is similar to Radeon R700. As for the processor, it is having an IBM 45nm multi-core processor with DRAM embedded on it. Still talking about high definition system, the console is able to deliver a video up to 1080p over HDMI.

It also has an internal memory for game save data and media storage. If the internal memory is not enough to fulfill your necessity, the console can support external memory using SD Card and USB HDD to expand your memory. It also is equipped with four USB 2.0 slots.

Another excellence in this console is the 6.2 inch touchscreen. The touchscreen will display what your TV displays. This way, you no longer need to be attached with your TV. Even without TV, you can still play the game by watching the video on this screen. This touchscreen can also work as controller. The characteristic is similar to Nintendo 3DS gyroscope, camera, built-in microphone, and accelerometer.

As a replacement of the previous Wii, this WiiU console is designed to be backwards compatible. Therefore, this console can use all the Wii accessories and play all the Wii game. This is also beneficial for Wii users as they are forced to upgrade their game console if they do not want to. But of course, there will be more games on this WiiU. Nintendo stated that they created WiiU in order to support the widest variety of games.

WiiU will be Backward Compatible

The previous Nintendo games consoles are much likely to focus in providing non-mature games to attract the young gamers. But this new WiiU has more choice in mature games to expand their consumer targets. Nintendo has worked with many popular game companies such as Ubisoft, Sega EA and much more. It will provide some popular games such as Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, Tekken, and much more.

To accommodate all the gamers, Nintendo stated that they are planning to open up an app store and also an e-book platform. On this Nintendo app store, the Nintendo Company will be easy to offer some digital gaming magazine, game guides, and much more.

WiiU – Will it Be a Hit?

A poll has been held for asking people’s excitement about the product. The result shows that only 10% of gamers stated that they are not interested in buying this new game console. The other 42% are very excited and said that they plan to pre-order the console. Meanwhile, the remaining 48% of the gamers plan to buy the product without pre-ordering it. What about you? Are you having any interest in buying this new Nintendo Wii U video game console?

Well it can be seen that with the upcoming WiiU, Nintendo is having a console up to current times with HD capability and touch screen control. The pertinent question in everybody mind as well as the company which makes it is, will WiiU be a hit or a flop. Will it be the ultimate game console of 2012 or just will it just pass on as just one of the usual game console.

WiiU is a great hardware, affordable (hopefully) and up to times. So how successful it will it be will depends what games will it be used to play. A great game console will go with a great game to make it memorable combination and a hit. Think of the game Halo and Xbox come to mind or Final Fantasy, there is PlayStation.  Judging from Nintendo history, it has not failed coming out with great games, like its latest Wii hit “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword”.  Thus very likely Nintendo will repeat the same feat for WiiU.

WiiU and 3DS will be in Nintendo Network

This time, hopefully Nintendo will get it right compared to its earlier networking effort. Well by including WiiU and 3DS into the network is a piece of good news. Read more about it below.

Nintendo Network Confirmed For Wii U and 3DS!

Nintendo Wii’s friend code approach to online multiplayer in games like Mario Kart has been a huge let down. It doesn’t give us the ability to make a friends list or even see what games our friends are playing. Thankfully, it looks like Nintendo is finally catching up with Xbox LIVE and PSN, as Satoru Iwata confirmed the infrastructure is already in place for a new “Nintendo Network” during a recent investor presentation.

“Unlike Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which has been focused upon specific functionalities and concepts, we are aiming to establish a platform where various services available through the network for our consumers shall be connected via Nintendo Network service so that the company can make comprehensive proposals to consumers,” said Iwata.

The new service, which will be available for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, will allow “competition and communication” between players and will also act as a source for paid DLC. On the Wii U players will also be able to create multiple user accounts on a single console.

Another interesting bit of info mentioned during the presentation was the idea of full retail game downloads. Nintendo hasn’t said whether or not this something they will do for sure, but Iwata did reveal that they now have the ability to do it. Retailer relationships and SD card storage limitations would have to be considered before a decision is made.

The new Nintendo Network should launch by the end of the year, in time for the new Wii U console, but its still not clear whether the two will launch at the same time.
